New Chaos Space Marines....color me unimpressed.

Well the White Dwarf pics have leaked and the internet is buzzing with the news of Chaos Space Marine. The first few pictures I saw yesterday we ok and then the flood gates opened this morning. I do really like a lot of what I am seeing. But then I am left wanting more.

I love these new models/kits
-Aspiring Champion
-Sorcerer
-Raptors/Warp Talons
-Warp Smith

The Daemon engines and flyer are not what I expected and I will hold off final judgement until I see them in person. I think they will just take some getting used to.

What leaves me disappointed is what did not get fixed. No new Chaos Space Marine box. Huge mistake in my opinion. The new chosen and Raptor models look so great that it makes that old box of Chaos Space Marines look even worse. No new Havocs. Wow thanks for making these garbage models Finecast. No new Thousand Sons, Plague Marines, Khorne Berzerkers, Noise Marines. Once again a huge WTF? Now did I expect all of these to come out in one huge release? Of course not. But at least do some of them up front. Chaos Space Marine got the Warhammer Fantasy treatment.....cool new big toys and nifty looking elite unit, but the core of the army is old and looks like shit.

I had such high hopes for this release and anticipated starting a new Chaos Marine army. Now I will just be looking to sell what remnants I had on eBay.

Is Games Workshop being very sneaky and dropping the Dark Angels codex next?

So yeah this is totally coming off like I am rumor guy. And just writing this is making me throw up a bit in my mouth. So I have some speculation that the Dark Angels codex is the next to be released. The last couple of time Games Workshop has released a new Edition of Warhhammer 40,000 the Space Marine Codex was the first book to be released. Since Dark Angels are the cover boys is Games Workshop going to continue that trend? Another (slim) reason to believe is the back cover of this months White Dwarf. It has a picture of a Dark Angels company master and the words "The Battle Rages On". Yes this is very ambiguous. But why only a picture of a Dark Angel? In my opinion everything Games Workshop does is very calculated. And finally my word of mouth source. I have a buddy that happened to be hanging out at Warhammer World today and an employee of some importance was over heard talking about Dark Angels being next. Yes this is like a big game of telephone.....but man oh man how exciting would it be to see a new Dark Angels codex?

This leads me to wonder what we can expect from the Dark Angels codex. I think we can expect several new characters. I am hoping to see the return of Asmodai. Based off of the prevuious codex we will have the Chapter Master Azrael, Grand Master of the Librarians Ezekiel, Master of the 1st Company Belial and Master of the Ravenwing Sammael. Will we get a named Battle Comapany Master? The return of Namaan (yes I know he is dead)? More than one chaplain character like the Blood Angels? Only time will tell. I am hoping for a new Power Armor upgrade kit as the old Dark Angel one is lackluster. I would also love to see a Deathwing Terminator kit but I believe that depends on how different they are equipped versus codex terminators. What I am really wondering about are the units that we have no idea about. Stuff that has not been written into the fluff yet. What is going to be the Dark Angels equivalent of Sanguinary Guard, Thunder Wolf Cavalry, Purifiers? What flyer are my beloved Dark Angels going to get? I personally do not believe the Land Speeder Tempest rumors. I don't think that other chapters get cool looking flyers while Dark Angels get a Land Speeder variation. I would be very letdown if Games Workshop does that. Here is to hoping for a surprise release that blows our socks off!

Here come the Dark Eldar! Run for your effin lives!

Back for another blog post and I hope this finds you enjoying your Sunday. Over at The Freebootaz Forum we are doing a Non Power Armored challenge. You build and paint your army 500 points at a time and do 1 battle report per month. For a while I have been torn between doing Tyranids or Dark Eldar. After lots of thinking I have decided to go with Dark Eldar.

To me the models that Games Workshop have produced for the Dark Eldar range are simply amazing. Each Dark Eldar model is highly detailed and saturated with pure evil. The Dark Eldar are also lightning fast and can bring some heavy fire power to bear on their enemies. With the release of 6th edition there has been a lot  of crying about Dark Eldar getting "nerfed". I think that is a bunch of shit. This army is as lethal as ever.

Here is my small 500 point force of Dark Eldar. It includes the following

- Archon with: Ghost Plate Armor, Shadow Field, Husk Blade, Blast Pistol, and Soul Trap
- 10 Warriors including Sybarite with: Splinter Pistol, Agoniser, Shredder, and Splinter Cannon
- 10 Wyches including Hekatrix with: Phantasm Grenade Launcher, Power Weapon, Hydra Gauntlets
- 1 Raider

I think it is a pretty solid army at 500 points. I look forward to taking them for a spin against Kyle's Vostroyans. Hopefully I can annihilate his army. Stay tuned for painting progress and battle reports with my Dark Eldar.

Dark Vengeance(f**k yeah!) and stupid internet rumors.

Greeting fellow hobbyists! Been a while. I am gonna really try to jump back into this.....again! I swear it this time. So this week saw the pre-orders for the new 40K starter set go up. I am freaking impressed. GW made starter set models that are dynamic and highly detailed enough for me to include in my army. And the best part is that it includes my first love (Dark Angels) and the ultimate evil love (Chaos Space Marines). So far I have two of the limited edition boxes on order and look forward to painting the hell out of these models. Also any of you out there that are members of 40k Radio, Brother Grimm is running a contest for the release of Dark Vengeance. Here is how it breaks down:

-You and a buddy split the Dark Vengeance box
-Each of you paint up one of the forces in the box
-Submit pictures of your paint job in the Freebootaz forum

The Freebootaz will vote for their favorites and the winners will each receive a copy of "Horus Heresy: Betrayal" by Forge World. If you are wondering what the hell Horus Heresy: Betrayal is, punch yourself in the dong then check this video out:
So yeah the contest is pretty much the bees knees.

Now onto the next part of the blog post...........stupid internet rumor monger. If you are like me you always want to be in the forefront of what is going to be next. I don't care so much about the power of the coming codex, I want to know what cool new toys I get to build and paint. There are a couple of fellows that are fairly reliable when it comes to model and codex releases. They never post about rumored rules from upcoming books.

In this mans opinion when I see someone posting about rules that they know are coming out I think they are full of crap. GW is a super secretive company. We are barely able to find leaks for upcoming models, so how in the hell would these people get to see what is in the codex? Last I heard most if not all play testing is internal at GW. And you better damn well believe that any external play testers have an airtight NDA with GW. So when I see guys like Faeit spitting out rumors 3 or 4 times a day it makes me laugh. The latest and greatest is how he thinks that because the new Sternguard upgrade kit has a different looking Heavy Bolter that it will get new rules. Come on guy......be smarter than that. So GW just put a huge effort into their new rule book with all the rules for weapons and within a few months are now going to make that entry in the back of the rule book obsolete? Riiiiiight. Or his other rumor saying they are going to get a suspensor upgrade to make them "viable". Ok buddy let's take a look at why the Heavy Bolter is already "Viable"

-free upgrade to tactical squad
-very cheap in devastator squads
-very effective against non-power armor armies
-better chance of hitting with snapfire (3 shots)

Making it salvo, or assault 3 18", or giving it an upgrade to shoot D3 times at full ballistic skill when moving is pure wish listing and stupid speculation. I would be downright shocked if in the next few months it gets any of those changes. I guess what this long winded rant is trying to get at is 99% of these people running off at the mouth about new rules are full of crap. I hope most of you are able to do what I can't :IGNORE THEM!

For more of my random thoughts/rage check out the forums on http://www.40kradio.com/
It is a great place to meet fellow hobbyists that are normal and not complete mouth breathers. Until next time!

Miracles.......

So as I am sure all of you know on Saturday the new line of Citadel Paints was released. Of course I already had my mega paint set pre-ordered through my local GW. Saturday Kyle, Matt and me went down to GW to play some 40K, buy some product and pretty much have a dude's day. I spent way too much money on the new Empire release, beat Kyle in a game of 40K, and enjoyed a delicious burrito from Chipotle. By the time I got home and finished watching the Sharks game I was too smoked to get any painting done.

I woke up this morning and decided to crack open my paint set. Simply stated the new paint line is freaking amazing. The vast amounts of colors in there just get your mind wandering on all the different armies you can paint. For some people out there I can see how the line can be a little overwhelming. Thankfully GW also released their how to paint miniatures book. For those of you that are on the Golden Daemon level the book might not be for you. I liked it because I was able to see all the different colors they have in action. Plus it is nice to have a reference which layer compliment which bases and which shades work well in certain situations.
I decided to get down to business and do up a test model and try to utilize all the different types of paints. I chose to do a Vampire Counts skeleton warrior. Following the paint guides in the book for the different parts of the skeleton made it super quick and easy to paint him up. Base, shade, and a layer or two......too easy. And yes I did use the texture paints and dry paint for his base. I am very happy with how this lad turned out

Stay tuned as I experiment more with these paints. Happy Easter.

Land Raider Achilles......why I love thee

The Land Raider Achilles.......loved by some, berated by others. I personally think it is an awesome tank. Yes it lacks the transport capacity of the other Land Raiders and yes it is expensive points wise, but I still think it gets the job done. Here are some of the reasons why I like this bad boy:

- Harder to kill with Melta Weapons. Melta weapons are all the rage right now. Melta Weapons are quite often cheap but very deadly at close range. The look on your opponents face will be priceless when he doesn't get to roll his extra die for armor penetration.

- A thunderfire that can move and shoot........awesome. A weapon that is quite often overlooked, the Thunderfire cannon can obliterate squads of infantry. It gets even nastier when you fight armies with low toughness and low armor saves.

- Bullet magnet. I love the feeling of throwing out something big and shiny to shoot at and watching my opponent take the bait. If an opponent is going to waste all of his time shooting the Achilles then he wont be shooting at the rest of my army. This can give you time to maneuver your forces into proper position and blow your opponent away.

-If looks could kill. The models just looks amazing. Even more so in person. It can get a bit expensive but putting this bad boy together is pretty easy and it looks magnificent. Now if I could only get some paint on mine.

- Put a little surprise inside. Just because it doesn't have the capacity of other Land Raiders does not mean you should leave it empty. Try something like a cheap scout squad inside. In a pinch you can have them pop out and take an objective while the Achilles backs them up with it's anti-tank and anti-infantry firepower.

Well there is my $.02 on the Land Raider Achilles. Hope you enjoyed them!

Getting My Square Base On!

As I promised I am keeping you up to date on what I am working on. Kyle came over and was working on his Crimson Fist, which are looking amazing. Mike was able to pry himself away from the Star Wars RPG for a few minutes and come up with the color scheme for his Raven Guard army. I continued to plug away at my Vampire Counts. I am so very glad that I love these models because it can get a bit tedious putting the same model together over and over and over. But in the end the army looks really cool and that is what counts.......

So far I have 60 skeletons, 3 Vargheists, 5 Black Knights and a Wight King built. The scary part is that is not even 50% of the army! I am really trying to buckle down and focus my free time on hobbying. Kyle has banned me from buying any new armies until I have one painted. The challenge has been laid before me and I will accomplish my mission. Now the big questions is do I paint what I have built already or do I hold off on painting until I have everything built? What works best for you guys? I would love to hear your feedback.

Book Review: Deliverance Lost

Two posts in the same day! Oh lord the fun!

So I assume (assumption being the mother of all f@$# ups) many of you that read this blog either know me in person or head me during my stint on 40k Radio. Either way you know I love the background of 40k and looooove me some Black Library books. I just got done reading Deliverance Lost by Gav Thorpe, the latest in the Horus Heresy series. I have to say this book is one of the best Horus Heresy books that has been written.

The story focuses on Corax trying to rebuild his legion after the drop site massacre. Unknown to him the Alpha Legion has infiltrated his ranks. This book also includes appearances by Rogal Dorn, The Emperor, Malcador, Horus, Erebus, the Imperial Fist, the Custodes and countless others. It also offers other little cool story lines that help make this book (and many others in the Horus Heresy series) so awesome. Interested in finding out the origins of Mark VI armor and why the Raven Guard has so many of these suits? The answer is in this book. The book offers plenty of action and also some intrigue. Along with this book I would advise you to listen to the Horus Heresy audio book Raven's Flight. It will give you a bit of the background on some of the characters in this book.

I give this book 4.5 out of 5 Bolter Rounds

Here we go!

Hey guys want to apologize for the slacking in posting here. I have been busy getting rid of stuff on eBay and also working on Flames of War and Warhammer Fantasy. Yes you heard that right the dreaded square base game. Don't get me wrong I love some 40K but I am also a HUGE fan of fantasy. While I have several armies built for 40K, I really did not have a complete one built for fantasy. With the new Vampire Counts stuff coming out I decided to work on them.

I figured it was a good time to take a small break from 40K with the new rules coming out. After giving the leaked rules a good reading I can honestly say I hope that is the direction that 40K goes. I like the complexity it adds to the game and I also like the fact that it takes some of the randomness out of the game. Which is great for a guy like me who can only seem to be able to roll ones and twos. I PROMISE to make more of an effort to update on here as I know I have been severely slacking. I will look to make updates at least every Thursday to show progress from my Wednesday night hobby night with Kyle (and Matt if he stops getting sick). Some of you also might want to check out my eBay auctions. Most of my sales finished last night but I am going to be adding more stuff this week.
